Sign Up Click HereThe 31st annual Invitational will be held March 23-29 at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Florida. Tiger Woods is the defending and five-time champion at Bay Hill. Woods also was the runner-up by three strokes to Immelman in the 2008 Masters.

The event is named in honor of its host and founder, Arnold Palmer. Mr. Palmer is a legend and icon in the world of golf having amassed 92 victories worldwide, including 4 Masters titles, 2 British Open Championships, and one US Open Championship.

The full name of the tournament is Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by MasterCard, a name the tournament assumed beginning in 2007. For a dozen or so years prior to that, it was known as the Bay Hill Invitational after its host course, which Palmer owns.

The Bay Hill Invitational has been a PGA Tour event since 1979 when Bob Byman won that first tournament two decades ago. The course, which was built in 1961 by Dick Wilson, continues to be one of the top stops on the PGA Tour today. Palmer has long been the host of this tournament.

Tiger Woods won this event for the fifth time by sinking a 25-foot birdie putt on the final hole. Woods posted rounds of 70-68-66-66 for a 10-under 270 total, one stroke better than runner-up Bart Bryant.

Tiger Woods won the Arnold Palmer Invitational four straight years, 2000-03. Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen are the only other golfers to win a PGA Tour event four straight years.

Past champions of the event reads like a who's who of golf - Ernie Els (1998), Phil Mickelson (1997), Ben Crenshaw ('93), Fred Couples ('92), Tom Kite ('89), Payne Stewart ('87) and Fuzzy Zoeller ('85) to name a few. These great men of golf are pictured on a wall of fame near the pro shop, which is considered one of the top 100 in the country, according to Golf Shop Operations.

Arnold Palmer Invitational Rresults

Tiger Woods stalked his 15-foot, 11-inch putt to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Sunday evening, after the ball dropped into the hole and the gallery exploded into a disbelieving frenzy, after a hug from the esteemed tournament host and several slaps on the back from other well-wishers, the six-time champion at Bay Hill was asked about his 275th and final stroke of the week.

Woods analytically explained his strategy, discussing how it was an uphill left-to-right putt that, if anything, he wanted to leave on the high side, but hoped the green would snag it and bring it back to the hole. And then, finally, he spoke the magic words.

"I hit it right where I was looking," he said, "and it somehow went in."
