College World Series
The 2009 College World Series will begin on Saturday, June 13 and conclude either June 23 or June 24, 2009 on Omaha. All 17 possible baseball games will be televised wither on ESPN or ESPN2.
The College World Series is one of the greatest sporting events in America today, with the nation's hottest teams laying it all on the line in a quest for a national championship. The College World Series is the exciting culmination each year for college baseball.
Every June, the NCAA baseball season reaches an amazing apex at Omaha's Rosenblatt Stadium for the College World Series. Rosenblatt is a legendary baseball venue whose name has become synonymous with the event itself. Getting to Rosenblatt and the College World Series is the goal that every NCAA Division 1 baseball team starts with at the beginning of the season. The road to Omaha is tough, but for those fortunate few schools that persevere
the rewards are an experience that will last a lifetime.
Teams advance to the College World Series by winning a double elimination Regional tournament and then a 3-game Super Regional. The CWS format divides the 8 teams that qualify into two separate 4-team double-elimination brackets. The winners from each bracket advance to play each other in a best of 3 CWS Championship series. The 3-game Championship series is something that was recently added to the College World Series to
more fairly crown the NCAA Champ.
The College World Series is full of thrilling moments, and has had some of the greatest players in baseball participate. Historic baseball players like; Dave Winfield, Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, Todd Walker and Barry Bonds have all played in CWS games.
