Mosley vs Antonio Margarito Boxing Odds

Antonio Margarito - Three-Time Welterweight Champion will face off with, "Shane Mosley" The Four-Time World Champion in Three Weight Divisions

Sugar" Shane Mosley will be taking on Antonio Margarito for the WBA Welterweight title on
January 24th, 2009. The fight, originally scheduled for the Mandalay Bay, will now take place
at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Sign Up Click Here The two combatants are the Mexican favorite Antonio Margarito (37-5, 27 KO’s) putting his
WBA Welterweight title on the line against Shane Mosley (45-5, 38 KO’s). Margarito is 30 and stands 5’11” and Mosley is 37 and goes 5’9”. The fight will be on HBO World Championship Boxing and starts at 7 pm PT.

Mosley is possessed of good boxing skills, but is more of a puncher-boxer. He’s not
the type who is going to dance or run. He likes to plant his feet and throw. And he is not an
especially big puncher at welterweight, where he has just five knockouts in twelve fights.

Mosley has made a career of beating “bigger” men; F. Vargas, Mayorga, A. Diaz, Stone and he went 12 rounds with Miguel Cotto. Can Mosley out box Margarito while piling up points of his own or can he KO Margarito?

Mosley fancies himself as a technically proficient boxer, but the truth is, as skilled as he may be, he responds to hard shots by throwing hard shots.

Margarito does exactly the same thing. The problem for Mosley is that Margarito is bigger and stronger. Shane argues that he's fought bigger guys before, like Winky Wright (twice, both losses) and Ricardo Mayorga. The difference is that neither of those men throw the volume of punches that Margarito does, often averaging 100 plus punches per round.

Non-stop punching attack of Margarito or do you think the boxer/puncher in Mosley can pull it off?

Can Mosley pull out a victory in this fight? Las Vegas Odds Makers do not seem to think so.

Antonio Margarito is currently listed as a -500 favorite, while "Sugar" Shane Mosley is a +350 underdog.

This means that you would have to wager $500 on Margarito in order to win $100 back, while a successful $100 wager on Mosley would net you a profit of $350.

The Over/Under is currently set at 10 1/2 rounds, with the Over going for EVEN and the Under going for -130.

Antonio Margarito vs Shane Moskey Results

Besieged by outside-the-ring problems, "Sugar" Shane Mosley never let them bother him, at least publicly.

Instead, he carried himself with a quiet confidence throughout the buildup to his fight with Antonio Margarito.

And when they finally got into the ring Saturday at the Staples Center, with a record crowd of 20,820 going crazy -- and mostly cheering for Margarito -- it seemed as though Mosley let whatever frustration that may have built up inside of him out on Margarito.

It was a thrashing.

A destruction.

There was a knockdown in the eighth round.

And a knockout 43 seconds into the ninth round, a round in which the Sugarman closed the show by outlanding Margarito a staggering 21-0.

The victory, in which Mosley, from nearby Pomona, regained the welterweight championship, was validation that he's still great, even at 37.

Mosley, an underdog perhaps in part because he had suffered a close decision loss to Cotto in November 2007, was way faster than Margarito. And he seemed to also land much heavier blows as he pressured Margarito, who is normally the pressure fighter, throughout the fight.

Clearly ahead during what was an entertaining fight, Mosley did serious damage in the eighth round.

Mosley was landing huge shots when he finally knocked the usually iron-chinned Margarito down, sending him into the ropes with left hands and down on the end of hard right hands.

Margarito (37-6, 27 KOs) went down face-first and was smiling when he rose.

He knew he had been nailed and was in deep trouble.

In the ninth, he had nothing left. Mosley was teeing off on him in his corner, and as Margarito fell again, referee Raul Caiz was moving in to stop the fight at the same time Margarito's corner threw in the towel.

Margarito, 30, was out of sorts because he was forced to have his hands rewrapped before the fight after an illegal substance was discovered. Whatever it was, he took his beating like a man.
