2008 NFL Preseason “Quick Analysis”
AFC Cincinnati Bengals
Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
Stadium: Paul Brown Stadium
Coach: Marvin Lewis
NFL Championships: 0
The Bengal offseason has been dominated by the drama that is Chad Johnson – the star receiver is threatening to sit out the year in a contract dispute. The problem is that now that the defense is finally on its way Chad Johnson has been a distraction. First he was demanding a trade, but then he showed up at mini-camp. He and Houshmandzadeh make up a dangerous 1-2 punch fro Carson Palmer, but the tension could kill the season before it begins. We’re hoping that Carson Palmer and crew will be able to move past this locker room distraction to focus on the bounty of offensive weapons that bless the Bengal team.Rudi Johnson is injury free so far, but he needs the pressure up the field to make an impact in the box.
The Bengals are in position to make another run at respectability with a young defense on the rise. Defensive end Antwan Odom, linebacker Keith Rivers, and cornerbacks Johnathan Joseph and Leon Hall make up a until that could reshape the landscape of the AFC North.
Some Cincinnati Bengals history: The Bengals joined the American Football League (AFL) as an expansion team in 1968. Organized by Paul Brown, a coach who had won three NFL titles with the Cleveland Browns during the 1950s, the Bengals' first season featured rookie of the year Paul Robinson leading the AFL in rushing.
