2008 NFL Preseason “Quick Analysis”
NFC Dallas Cowboys
Location: Dallas, Texas
Stadium: Texas Stadium
Coach: Wade Phillips
NFL Championships: Super Bowl VI (1971), Super Bowl XII (1977), Super Bowl XXVII (1992), Super Bowl XXVIII (1993) & Super Bowl XXX (1995)
The Cowboys are the favorites with an average defense that may breakout into greatness behind linebacker DeMarcus Ware and cornerback Pacman Jones. The Cowboy's defense was fine last season, but did not play near Super Bowl levels.
The offense is explosive as they come with Tony Romo set take the reign from Brett Favre for the live or die quarterback of the 21st century. If he can become a little more accurate Terrell Owens will have to increase his post-touchdown repertoire. The big question after last season was Dallas' running game.
Fan at Texas Stadium new they could score from twenty yards, but inside the five was a little to close for comfort. The drafting of running back Felix Jones will hopefully add some balance to the offense so that when the offense sputters on occasion during the schedule they can control the clock.
Some Dallas Cowboy history: Dallas is one of the most successful franchises in NFL history, having appeared in eight Super Bowls -- more than any other team. The Cowboys won five of these games, a record matched by the San Francisco 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tom Landry, a legend in professional football history, coached the club to two Super Bowl victories during the 1970s, with teams starring quarterback Roger Staubach. Dressed in a jacket, tie, and trademark hat, Landry was a familiar sight on the Dallas Cowboys sideline from 1960 to 1988. During his 29-year career the Hall of Fame strategist guided the Cowboys to five Super Bowl appearances and compiled 270 career wins.
