The Eagles have lived and died with Donovan McNabb since the turn of the century, and things are no different this year. As the seasons have worn on, it seems like the Eagles have been waiting on the latest McNabb injury to spoil to the rest of the schedule.
He did not throw at the passing camp, but it has to be mentioned that the same thing happened before the 2004 season when the Eagles went to the Super Bowl.
Of course McNabb is also four seasons older, which is not that comforting. The defense has changed in the last few years, but the Eagles generally change the defense for the better. With the exception of Lito Sheppard at cornerback, a new fierce defense with defensive end Trent Cole and linebackers Omar Gaither, Chris Gocong, and Stewart Bradley should hold their own if not excel.
The offense, apart from the annual McNabb watch also has to watch for L.J. Smith to make a strong comeback after last season, but it will not be easy. There is very little else for opposing defenses to focus on with their wide receiving corps. If Hank Baskett, DeSean Jackson, or Michael Gasperson can emerge as a clear number two receiver the offense would be pleased.
Brian Westbrook will continue to be the best option, running or passing, for the Eagles, but if they can somebody to stretch the field he may be able to take the drop pass more than four yards.
Some Philadelphia Eagles history: In 1933 Bert Bell and Lud Wray bought the NFL's Frankford Yellow Jackets and moved the team to Philadelphia. Renamed the Eagles, the club struggled, posting losing records in each of its first ten seasons.
