Tampa Bay Buccaneers2008 NFL Preseason “Quick Analysis”
NFC
Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Location: Tampa, Florida
Stadium: Raymond James Stadium
Coach: Jon Gruden
NFL Championships: Super Bowl XXXVII (2002)

Sign Up Click HereThe Buccaneers led the NFL in pass defense in 2007 and were consistently one of the league’s toughest defenses.

The defense is stocked with veteran talent that dates from their 2002 Super Bowl team, including Derrick Brooks and Ronde Barber. Even with an easy NFC South schedule the team looks like the distractions might be too much, even for John Gruden.

Ageless quarterback Jeff Garcia and wide receiver Joey Galloway remain the most potent part of the offense. Little else will get the fans out of their seats while the defense sits on the sidelines. Garcia wants a new contract though, but he is 38.

The running back position is up for grabs too. The contest between Ernest Graham and Warrick Dunn will be interesting. Graham filled in nicely last season, and Dunn is an old star coming back home.

The offense may be sputtering along and dependent on the occasional big play, but the defense can score as well and will keep the other team out of the end zone.

Some Tampa Bay Buccaneers history: The Buccaneers joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team. Former University of Southern California (USC) head coach John McKay was hired to pilot the club, but Tampa Bay's first season was a dismal one. The club became the first team in NFL history to lose all 14 regular-season games, suffering five shutouts and fielding the conference's worst offense and defense. The Buccaneers' losing streak grew to a league-record 26 consecutive games as the club lost the first 12 games of its second season.
