The Open Championship returns to the Lancashire Course at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th July 2008. This will be the ninth time Royal Birkdale has hosted the Championship, from Peter Thomson's win in 1954 to Mark O'Meara's in 1998.
The Royal Birkdale Golf Club is situated in the North West of England, on the same stretch of coastline as Royal Liverpool and Royal Lytham St Annes, both also Open Championship venues.
As well as England's Golf Coast, the Northwest region also contains Liverpool, Manchester, Lancashire and Cumbria.

The 2008 British Open winner is Padraig Harrington.
Padraig Harrington was the reigning British Open champion and came in with 22/1 odds offering excellent payout odds on the upcoming Ryder Cup (September 16-21).
Ireland’s favourite golfer was backed at odds as big as 33/1 and 25/1 before the tournament began.
The biggest bet reported by Paddy Power was one of €5,000 at 25/1 returning a massive €130,000 to the lucky punter.
