This one mile tri-oval track raceway is located in Avondale, Arizona. known as PIR, this raceway sits in the foothills of the Estrealla Mountains as it is located in the southwest part of the Valley at the base of the these mountains. After delivering a self-described "butt-kicking" in Sunday's Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 by leading 238 of 312 laps, Johnson built his lead to 108 points over Hendrick Motorsports teammate Mark Martin heading into the season finale.
Martin, the only other title-eligible driver, has outscored Johnson by more than 108 points only nine times in 265 head-to-head starts, but the most recent was Nov. 8 at Texas Motor Speedway, where Johnson lost 111 points after crashing early.
