Richmond, Virginia, gets its second dose of NASCAR Nextel Cup action when the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 takes on Richmond International Raceway.

The Richmond International Speedway is the host track for the Chevy Rock and Roll 400 in 2009. The NASCAR racing event will take place September 12th, 2009. This 300 mile race is a must win for many drivers, and It doesn't get any more important for a NASCAR driver than the Chevy Rock 'n' Roll 400. Formerly known as Strawberry Hill, this tri-oval track is three quarters of a mile in length and the unique layout traditionally produces exciting side-by-side racing, yet drivers reach high enough speeds for a superspeedway feel.

This Chevy Rock and Roll 400 will finish up the last of two races held at the Richmond International Speedway for 2009. This annual race, the last in the circuit's "regular season," is the final opportunity for drivers to secure a spot in the all-important Chase for the Sprint Cup. only the top 12 drivers in the point standings will be eligible to win the series championship, which is decided over the final 10 races of the season. It will also be covered by ABC in live television for the second time ever in the history of the race.

The Chase for the Sprint Cup begins on Sunday, September 16 with the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway, and concludes on November 18 with the Ford 400.

2009 Chevy Rock & Roll 400 Results

Denny Hamlin won the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 at Richmond International Raceway, beating Kurt Busch to the checkered flag by 0.38 seconds. Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin and Kyle Busch round out the top 5 in the running order. Denny Hamlin pushed the #11 Toyota to an average speed of 96.601 mph and led 299 of the race's 400 laps, taking home $238,075. The race ran 3:06:20 and saw 12 lead changes. Due to 10 yellow flags, the race spent 56 laps under caution.
