WBC super flyweight title
Saturday December 12, 2009
Agua Caliente Casino, Rancho Mirage, California, USA

WBC and WBA superflyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (32-2-1, 26 KOs) will defend his WBC title against Mexican Tomas Rojas (31-11-1, 22 KOs) on Saturday December 12, 2009.

Darchinyan will be defending his WBC/WBA Super Flyweight Titles. Darchinyan lost to Joseph Agbeko in a challenge for the IBF bantamweight title in July. Darchinyan was fighting for the first time at bantamweight hoping to become the second boxer in history to win titles at flyweight, super flyweight and bantamweight.

Darchinyan fought too conservatively in the early parts of the fight and by the time that he made his surge in the later rounds, he was too far behind to make up ground.

In Tomas Rojas last fight, he won a dominating twelve round decision over previously undefeated Evans Mbamba (16-1, 8 KOs) of South Africa.

Darchinyan-Rojas will be paired with the main event of Timothy Bradley defending his WBO 140-pound title against mandatory Lamont Peterson.

The 26-year-old Bradley (24-0, 11 KOs), who is coming off a no contest against former unified lightweight world champion Nate Campbell on Aug. 1 on SHOWTIME, is on a hot streak in the stacked 140-pound division. Bradley originally won the fight via highly controversial third-round TKO, but the decision was later changed to a NC by the California State Athletic Commission due to an accidental head butt that opened a cut over Campbell’s left eye.

Peterson (27-0, 13 KOs), of Washington, D.C., who is one of the hottest prospects in boxing, is coming off a seventh-round TKO over previously unbeaten Willy Blain on April 25, 2009 for the interim WBO junior welterweight title. Now he has his first shot at a world title against a man that no one in the 140-pound division has been able to beat.
