The highly anticipated super mega matchup between the top welterweight champion Miguel Cotto and the No. 1 pound-for-pound champion in the world.

Two of boxings most entertaining, hard hitting fighters will meet each other at the catch weight of 145 pounds. With the percentages of revenue not disclosed, the winner of this fight could be on their way to battle Floyd Mayweather, assuming Floyd can get past Marquez on Sept. 19.

Cotto (34-1, 27 KOs), a titleholder at 147 pounds, had agreed to drop below the welterweight limit for the fight. Pacquiao, the 140-pound junior welterweight champion, wanted him to come all the way down to 143 pounds. Cotto refused. Ultimately, they agreed on a 145-pound maximum weight. Cotto hasn't fought below the welterweight limit since June 2006. Miguel Cotto, has a monster left hook that he could repeatedly destroy his opponents with shots to the body or head nonstop like it was a video game.

Manny Pacquiao made history Saturday night. And in the process, he made a bloody mess of Miguel Cotto's face.
Pacquiao attacked Cotto with a ferocious barrage from the start, but really stepped up the pace in the second half of the fight. He finally had done so much damage that Cotto's corner wanted the fight stopped after the 11th round, but Cotto refused.
Referee Kenny Bayless finally stopped the fight 55 seconds into the 12th round, giving Pacquiao a technical knockout and Cotto's WBO welterweight belt before a raucous, sold-out crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
It was Pacquiao's record seventh world title in his seventh different weight class. Nobody had ever won more than six. He also has held lineal titles in four weight classes and could stake a claim to the welterweight title with a win over Cotto, who has beaten Shane Mosley.
