The 91th PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club will mark the fifth time in 37 years that the event has been played in Oklahoma. It was last conducted at Southern Hills in 1994, where Nick Price captured his second PGA championship in three years.

During its 70-year history, Southern Hills Country Club has hosted 13 national golf championships, including three PGA Championships, three U.S. Open Championships, one U.S. Amateur Championship, One Senior Amateur Championship, one Junior Amateur Championship, one Women's Amateur Championship, one Women's Mid Amateur and two PGA Tour Championships. As well, Southern Hills is scheduled to host the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship.

Wanamaker Golf Club

Wanamaker is an exclusive, air-conditioned pavilion which is completely furnished including television monitors. It includes a wide selection of food and beverages for purchase and is known for its great atmosphere.

Over the past nine decades, the PGA Championship has developed into one of the premier sporting events in the world. More than 100,000 people line the fairways of the nation's finest golf facilities during PGA Championship week to view the strongest, all-professional international field in major championship golf. As it was more than 70 years ago, the Wanamaker Trophy is still prized as one of the golf world's greatest treasures.

Highlighting the field at the 91th PGA Championship, the last leg of golf's Grand Slam, will be two-time PGA Champion Tiger Woods, 2005 PGA Champion Phil Mickelson, and Retief Goosen, winner of the last major staged at Southern Hills, the 2001 U.S. Open.

Some Facts and history about the PGA golf championship tour

At the Taplow Club in New York City. On Jan. 16, 1916, a group of 35 individuals, including legendary Walter Hagen, had a meeting which resulted in the formation of the PGA of America. PGA Championship. The first PGA Championship was played in 1916 at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, N.Y. and was won by British-born professional Jim Barnes.

The event featured 31 players and the winner, earning $500 and a diamond medal. But it would be five years before an American-born PGA Professional claimed the Championship. In 1958, the format of the PGA Championship was changed from match play to stroke play. Sense the new format of the PGA tour there have been many changes with champions and prizes. In 1999, a 23-year-old named Tiger Woods became the fifth youngest winner in PGA Championship history when he outlasted Spain's 19-year-old Sergio Garcia by one stroke at Medinah (Ill.) Country Club.  Rich Beem in 2002 won $990,000 for his victory in the PGA Championship, which had over 900 media credentialed to cover the event, tens of thousands of spectators in attendance, and millions watching on television around the world. Over the past eight decades, the PGA Championship has developed into one of the premier sporting events in the world.

The PGA Championship is considered one of the toughest in all of golf to win. The PGA Championship features the strongest field in major championship golf, and is contested at some of the nation's best golf courses. The USGA demands two things of its Open venues: that they be in immaculate condition, and that they offer a stiff test to the best golfers in the world. The USGA selects sites several years in advance

Whistling Straits will provide the perfect test for the world's best golfers. The layout of the holes, the views of the lake and the dunes are a breathe taking site. The 18-hole course was created by golf course designer Pete Dye in the style of the legendary seaside links of the British Isles. Located nine miles northeast of Kohler, Wis., Straits earned early acclaim both for its stunning layout that stretches along two miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. It is a walking only golf course and has caddies as well. Whistling Straits was designed to hold up to 75,000 spectators.

The course plays from near lake level to panoramic bluff elevations 50-feet over the fairways with spectacular vistas of Lake Michigan from all 18 holes and features fescue fairways and massive sand dune bunkers. The course layout weaves fourteen holes in nearly uninterrupted sequence along the two miles of lakefront. The course already has been ranked 11th among the 100 Best Modern Courses by Golfweek magazine.
