UFC 62 Betting

UFC 62

UFC 62 will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Saturday, August 26.

The stakes couldn’t be higher when UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell defends his crown against Brazil’s Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral in the UFC 62 main event at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on Saturday, August 26.

One of the most recconized UFC Fighters, Chuck ‘The Iceman’ Liddell has defended the crown he won from Randy Couture in April of 2005 twice, most recently with a second round knockout of Couture in their February rubber match.

Sidelined since then due to a toe injury, Liddell knows that a victory on August 26 will set-up perhaps the most anticipated matchup in MMA this year with the San Luis Obispo resident taking on Brazilian superstar Wanderlei Silva.

But Sobral is no one’s stepping stone, as evidenced by his ten fight winning streak since the first bout between the two, won by Liddell in November of 2002. In that almost four year period, Sobral has truly fought his way to the number one contender’s slot, submitting Travis Wiuff, Chael Sonnen, and Mike Van Arsdale in his last three UFC bouts, and even beating world-class combatants Jeremy Horn, Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, and Trevor Prangley in a single night in 2003.

Winning the world title has long been ‘Babalu’s dream, and he has no intentions of letting that dream slip away.

Bonnar vs. Griffin 2 promises to be another classic fight, with the winner moving up as one of the top contenders in line for a light heavyweight title figh.

The first fight during the Ultimate Fighter Finale made the two fighters instant fan favorites and was arguably one of the best fights of 2005. Griffin won the close decision and the title of the Ultimate Fighter. Bonnar was awarded the six-figure contract anyway for his impressive performance.

Both fighters are coming off a loss. Griffin to Tito Ortiz and Bonnar to Rashad Evans.

David Terrell vs. Yushin Okami has been added to the UFC 62 card. Terrell, whose MMA record is 6-2, last fought for UFC at the company’s “UFC 59? PPV. Okami has yet to fight in the UFC, although he boasts a 16-3 record.

UFC 62, which takes place on August 26, is to be headlined by Chuck Liddell vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.

Chuck Liddell vs. Renato "Babalu" Sobral (UFC LHW Title)
Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar
Thiago Alves vs. Josh Neer
Wes Combs vs. Wilson Gouveia
Cory Walmsley vs. David Heath
Yushin Okami vs. Alan Belcher*
Cheick Kongo vs. Christian Wellisch
Hermes Franca vs. Jamie Varner**

Okami was originally scheduled to fight David Terrell, but an injury forced Terrell off the card.

Spencer Fisher was originally scheduled to fight Jamie Varner, but an injury foced Fisher off the card.

UFC 62 fight odds are now availible for this epic rematch, which highlights an exciting card featuring the premier mixed martial artists in the world. Placing a UFC bet is as close as you can get to the Octagon action without getting hit.

Chuck Liddell Defends his Title Against Renato Sobral

Renato Sobral has had years to prepare for this rematch only to be let down a second time when Liddell caught him with a flurry of punches early in the first round. Referee stoppage early in the first round due to the fact that Sobral could not defend himself. Sobral was so disoriented that he actually tried going after McCarthy as he’s trying to help him up.

On the undercard, Forrest Griffin faced off with Stephan Bonnar for a second time. The first time these two met was on the season finale of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV. Were they took an all out war on each others faces.

In this second bout, they showed more respect for each other and fought more on strategy than instinct brawling. Griffin won by unanimous descision.

Preliminary Fights:

Yushin Okami b. Alan Belcher
- Yushin Okami defeats Alan Belcher via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).

David Heath b. Cory Walmsley
- David Heath defeats Cory Walmsley via submission at 2:32 of Round One.

Wilson Gouveia b. Wes Combs
- Wilson Gouveia defeats Wes Combs via submission at 3:23 of Round One.

Eric Schafer b. Rob MacDonald
- Eric Schafer defeats Rob MacDonald via stoppage at 2:26 of Round One.

Main Card Fights

Hermes Franca b. Jamie Varner
- Hermes Franca defeats Jamie Varner via submission at 3:31 of Round Three.

Cheick Kongo b. Christian Wellisch
- Cheick Kongo defeats Christian Wellisch via TKO at 2:51 of Round One.

Nick Diaz b. Josh Neer
- Nick Diaz defeats Josh Neer via submission at 1:42 of Round Three.

All in all, UFC 62 was not a superior event, but a strong one. Liddell looked very good, Griffin-Bonnar was a decent enough follow up to their original, and the undercard was interesting. Forty bucks well spent.
