UFC 85: Matt Hughes vs. Thiago Alves
  Originally the main event was supposed to be Chuck Liddell Vs Mauricio Rua until Rua suffered a knee injury that forced Rashad Evans into a replacement role. Evans was in a great position to get a shot at the former champion and really step up to the elite level of competition in the Light Heavyweight division. until Chuck Liddell injured a hamstring that will keep him off the fight scene for a few months at least.
James Irving, fresh off his recent KO victory over Houston Alexander stepped up to take Liddell’s place, only to get hurt him self and then get replaced by Matt Hughes Vs. Thiago Alves.
Ryo Chonan will take on Roan Carneiro
The two fighters locked horns previously in 2005 DEEP show in Japan. Chonan came out the victor after cutting Carneiro with a knee as the Brazilian shot for a takedown in the third round.
Both fighters have since dropped down to welterweight.
England-based fighter Jess Liaudin (8-3-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) says he will fight Brit Paul Taylor (12-9 MMA, 1-2 UFC) at UFC 85. Both Liaudin and Taylor will fight in England for the fourth consecutive time.
The two fighters first met at Cage Rage 2 in February 2003, where Liaudin lost—what he calls—a “controversial decision.” The rematch will likely come on the UFC 85 un-televised preliminary card.
Liaudin made his UFC debut last year and posted a first-round submission victory over Dennis Siver at UFC 70 and a first-round TKO of Anthony Torres at UFC 75. The two victories pushed his win streak to five straight, but he was stopped by Marcus Davis at UFC 80 earlier this year with a 64-second knockout.

Alves beats Hughes in UFC 85
Thiago Alves proved that he's ready for a title shot by defeating nine-time UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes in a catch weight bout at UFC 85.
After an evenly matched first round, Alves took over in the second, slamming a flying knee in Matt Hughes' grill, forcing referee Herb Dean to stop the fight 62 seconds into the second round.
